400 Kiwi Alumi expected  at S'wak convention

KUCHING: About 400 delegates are expected to attend the New Zealand Alumni Convention 2004 to be hosted by Sarawak here July next year, New Zealand Centre managing director Rodger Chan said.

He said the convention, scheduled to start on July 8, was to enhance closer relations for mutual benefit between nations through New Zealand's worldwide alumni network.

Themed "Its a Small World for Alumni - Towards a Better World," the convention hoped to promote trade, tourism, education, culture and understanding, he told reporters here on Friday.

Apart from Malaysia, delegates from New Zealand Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Vietnam: Australia, Brunei, Taiwan, Fiji, Indonesia,
Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States and Africa are also expected at the three-day convention.

An estimated 13,000 Malaysians have been educated in New Zealand with many currently occupying senior positions in the private and government sectors.

At present about 1,086 Malaysians are studying it New Zealand, contributing about NZ$38 million to it, economy annually. - Bernama
